ABOUT KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

Kruger National Park is one of the largest and most famous national parks in Africa. It is located in the northeastern part of South Africa, in the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga. The park shares borders with Mozambique to the east and Zimbabwe to the north.

With an area of nearly 2 million hectares (about 7,800 square miles), Kruger National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa.

Kruger is home to an incredible diversity of life, with over 500 bird species, 148 mammal species, including the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo), and a staggering 336 tree species. It has incredible biodiversity and is a hugely popular destination for safaris and wildlife viewing.

The park features different landscapes including mountain ranges, bush plains, tropical forests, and savanna. The renowned Crocodile and Olifants rivers flow through Kruger as well. With its varied habitats and abundant wildlife, it provides visitors with excellent game viewing opportunities all year-round.

Kruger National Park is one of the major attractions in South Africa and a must-visit for any wildlife enthusiast traveling to the region. Its sheer size, biodiversity, and famous residents like leopards, rhinos, and massive elephant herds make it an iconic African safari destination.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP

The Makuleke Contractual Park, where our walking safaris take place, is a testament to the successful restitution of land rights in South Africa. After being forcibly removed from their ancestral home during the apartheid era, the Makuleke people have triumphantly reclaimed their land through the country's first successfully settled land claim in a conservation area.

Today, the Makuleke people are not only the rightful landowners but also  valued business partners and guides, sharing their intimate knowledge of the land and its wildlife. By joining our walking safaris, you contribute directly to the uplifting of this remarkable community and the preservation of their cultural heritage.

Our hospitality partner's commitment to the Makuleke people goes beyond preserving their land rights. We actively support their socio-economic development through various initiatives:

- 95% of our camp staff, including those in senior positions, are from the Makuleke Villages, ensuring direct employment opportunities for the local community.

-Our partner service provider pays 10% of all revenue to the Makuleke community, enabling them to share in the returns generated by the safari operations on their land.

-Our partner service provider maintains three drop-in centers that support over 400 children monthly, providing vital resources for their education and well-being.

By choosing our walking safaris, you become part of a sustainable tourism model that empowers the Makuleke people, preserves their cultural identity, and safeguards the remarkable biodiversity of this region for future generations.
